Family Support Services

Home Visit Education – Goals are established to nurture a supportive family attitude focused on the individual family needs. There were 113 home visit contacts made in 2003.

Family Activities – CAFE presents many activities including Family Movie, Cookin’ with Kids, Christmas Crafts, Petting Zoo, Summer Fest Children’s Village, Family Fun Day, and Mardi Gras Children’s Costume Contest. In 2003 a total of 398 people attended these activities.

Community Services Referrals – CAFE works with hundreds of families to provide referrals to community programs and services or answer parenting questions.

Car Seat Safety

CAFE is recognized by Michigan SAFE KIDS as a permanent fitting station which provides guidelines for hosting monthly car seats check events. We also hold car seat check events in coordination with Family Fun Day and WCFX, National Night Out, and the Volunteer Center’s Day of Caring at Heritage Auto Mall.

Our six certified technicians have been busy in 2003 with:

  • Monthly presentations at the hospital preview night
  • A total of 336 seats checked
  • 848 Corrections Made (and possible serious injury or death prevented)
  • 162 New Seats Provided

Our statistics show that 93% of the car seats currently used in Isabella County are being used incorrectly

Child Abuse and Neglect

Child Abuse Assessment Team Forensic interviews and medical exams are provided for victims of sexual abuse and physical abuse.

The Child Abuse Assessment Team consists of members from:

  • Child Protective Service
  • Mt. Pleasant Police
  • Isabella County Sheriff
  • Michigan State Police
  • Central Michigan Community Hospital
  • Community Mental Health for Central Michigan
  • Isabella County Prosecutor

Child Abuse Identification Training – Training sessions are held for interested groups and persons identified as mandated reporters to help them recognize signs of abuse and understand how to make a report. In 2003 thirteen sessions were conducted to train 634 individuals.
